Economy key issue, even as state results diverge
The passage that I just read was about Mitt Romney winning the Northeast on Super Tuesday. Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich won the Southern states. Most voters said that the economy is the biggest issue. In Ohio Romney claimed 4 in 10 voters. The passage included Virginia's electorate is the only state to have exit and entrance polls so far.
The passage connects to what we are studying in class by telling readers about the process of electing a president. In chapter 8 the founders tried to set up the government system. In the passage I just read is discussing about electing a president.
The passage connects to my life is we are getting ready to elect the new president. We are using the basic ideas that the founders thought of 100s of years ago.Whoever is going to become the next president might change the economy in a good way. That would effect me and my family future.
My opinion its pretty cool that they use the same idea that the founders made up way back when. The founders didnt even have running water but they could make up the rules of are government. It took a long time for this to happen but it was worth it.

Contractor sentenced for worker's comp fraud
http://www.nctimes.com/news/local/murrieta/murrieta-contractor-sentenced-for-worker-s-comp-fraud/article_6a41ee22-5ce9-5e1b-892d-26d3fc7517c9.html
The article that I chose for my current event is about a roofing contractor who was sent to jail for not paying his taxes and insurance fraud. He also forged documents by not being honest with the insurance company. He
paid workers in cash instead of a check.Plus he hired unlicensed employes. At the end he was caught for cheating with the state.
This article connects to what we studied in chapter five. We learned about the Intolerable Acts. Britain made the Intolerable Acts as a punishment for the colonist throwing the tea overboard. There was a punishment for breaking the law in 1774. Today in 2012 if you do a crime you go to jail.
The article connects to my life by many people telling me that if you lie or do something bad you will pay the consequences. I had to pay for something I did wrong. I lied to my mom and had to repay her the money she spent. In the article the roofing contractor committed a crime and now he has to pay the state $510,000 and he will go to jail for one year.
In my opinion I think the roofing contractor did a very bad thing to himself. I agree with the state in punishing people who commenting crimes. Most of the time you will get caught for what you've done wrong.

Egyptians blame military for deadly soccer riot

This article addresses riots and police forces
This article talks about a riot that started after a soccer match in Egypt. Hundreds of people were hurt and seventy-four people were killed when a popular team lost. A group of hardcore fans called the Ultras said the police "intentionally let rivals attack them." The fans of the soccer team that won beat and stabbed the fans from the team that lost.
This connects to what we are studying in chapter five regarding the Boston Massacre. Both stories talk about angry mobs rioting, police showing up, and people dying. In the Boston Massacre the British soldiers shot at the mob. In the soccer game in Egypt the police didn't do anything to break up the fights.
This article connects to my life because I play soccer and I have been to games where the opposite team says comments to me that aren't nice. The parents sometimes yell across the field at my coach when they're losing. We haven't seen a riot yet but we have seen people get really mad after losing a soccer game.
In my opinion the sport of soccer shouldn't be like this. Games shouldn't end with people dying. People should be able without a risk of being beaten up for liking a soccer team.

29th Person Dies in Cantaloupe Listeria Outbreak
WWW.nctimes.com
http://www.nctimes.com/business/th-person-dies-in-canatloupe-listeria
The article that I picked is about people who are dieing because of tainted cantaloupes. Twenty nine people died after eating the tainted cantaloupes in Indiana,Louisiana, Maryland, and many other places. The cantaloups were grown at Jenson Frams in Colorado. There is an outbreak of listeria after cantaloups were sent out.
In chapter two I learned about how the Indians died of diseases that settlers brought over. England,France, and Spain all brought over illness to the Indians. This relates to what we are learning in class because when the farm grew the cantaloupes in Colorado and sent them out to the stores ,it carried an illness. The illness killed many people who ate it.
It connects to my life because I could buy something from the store and it could be tainted. There are many stories of food coming from other countries that are tainted. People have died from this.
In my opinion I think that its sad that the farms didn't know that the cantaloupes were tainted. I would feel really bad if I knew that I killed 29 people. I hope that the settlers felt bad for the people that they killed.

"Atlanta schools' Federal Standing Yanked"
http://www.nctimes.com/news/national/atlanta-schools-federal-standing-yanked/article_6405701c-05a2-5f7a-af2b-5783d34dfbdb.html
In this article half of Atlanta's schools have been caught cheating on reporting test scores. The schools got money from the state for high test scores. It turned into a federal case. The schools may have to pay back the money the got.Thousands of dollars.
It connects to what we are studying in class because it involves the legislative branch. The legislative branch helps make the laws. When the schools cheated they were not allowed to be under the No Child left Behind Act. That law was created to help kids academically.
It connects to my life as a citizen because I'm in school. I would not wont to be in a school that cheating and lied. You can get into a lot of trouble for cheating. Because the school wanted to have more money the students will suffer.
I think that the schools shouldn't have done that. They should have been honest about their test scores. In the end they may have to pay the money back. That will be tough. Honesty is the best policy.

This article is about a port in Oakland that shut down. It shut down because of the protesters. The police in Oakland said they are peaceful. No one has been arrested. They wanted to stop business in and out of the port.
This connects to what we are studying in class because we are learning about the bill of rights. The first amendment is the right to free speech. Also the right to assemble peacefully. That was what the people in the article were doing.
It can affect me as a citizen if I was ever in a group of people protesting. If it was for a good cause I would like to join it.That is why its important to have the Constitution. We are given that right.
In my opinion I think that we should never change this Amendment. It has a big part in our American society. It keeps people safe while they are saying what they want.

" Florida Man Pleads Not Guilty in Celebrity Hacking"
http://www.nctimes.com/entertainment/movies/florida-man-pleads-not-guilty-in-celebrity-hacking/article_7a8ce390-3579-5cac-8d3f-25c7d0e6744b.html
This article is about a man who hacked into celebrities email and stole some photos. The man posted those nude pictures of Johansson on the internet. Plus he hijacked the password so every time she got an email it would go to an account that he made.
This connects to what we are studying in class because we are learning about the judicial branch. Judges decide what to do with criminals. If you commit a crime you go to court.A jury says if you are guilty or not. The man in the article would start in the lower court.
This connects to my life because one time my friend hacked into my online account. He stole all of my players on a video game. This was really wrong of him. He went into my account without permission. It made me think of how the celebrity might have felt in the article.
In my opinion I think that the man should go to jail because he went into someone else's email account and looked at her stuff. I had that happen to me and it is not fun when it happens to you. You can get into a lot of trouble for that.
